It was such a joy to be
featured in the Basingstoke Gazette after my book reading at Kingsclere
Library. Sharing As Beautiful as A Dove with a room full of curious
children and their wonderful parents and carers reminded me exactly why I wrote
the story in the first place—to celebrate individuality, nature, and the quiet
magic in being yourself.
This book was born during a
trip across Europe with my mum in 2019. As we travelled, I found myself
constantly inspired by the natural beauty around us. Watching birds soar across
open skies, I started thinking about how we often compare ourselves to others
without realising our own unique beauty. That’s where Butterfly’s story began.
In As Beautiful as A Dove,
Butterfly tries to fly like Dove and Peregrine Falcon, believing that only
their way of flying is the “right” way. But through her journey, she learns to
embrace her own wings and discover what makes her special. It’s a message I
hope children can carry with them: you don’t have to be like anyone else to be
wonderful.
I’m currently studying Drama
and Creative Writing at Royal Holloway, and being able to share my first book
with young readers in a place as special as Kingsclere Library was truly
unforgettable. Thank you to everyone who came along—and to the library team for
supporting local authors and young imaginations.
